How can I find information about my Chenoweth ancestor?
Below are some steps that may be helpful in locating ancestry information.
- Gather Existing Info: Start with names, birthdates, locations, and other info you already have. This will give you the best start for verifying records later.
- Visit the Chenoweth Main Genealogy Site: Access the link to this site on our Links tab. Thanks to the work of Jon Egge and others, this is the most comprehensive database for Chenoweths in America. One can often track ancestry back to John Chenoweth who came to America from Cornwall England in 1703, and is from whom most Chenoweths in America originate. This site has stories, pictures, and a wealth of information for anything Chenoweth including family members of several other spelling variations of the Chenoweth name.
- Check Online Resources:
-
- Find a Grave: Excellent for burial sites and tracking lineage via relative links. Chenoweth grave information has been built out well on this site thanks to efforts of different family members throughout the country.
- FamilySearch: Contains census, probate, and military records.
- Ancestry: Offers historical documents and user-submitted trees.
- MyHeritage: Features international records and DNA tools.
- Newspapers.com: Useful for obituaries and local news.
-
- Social Media: Join our Chenoweth Facebook Group found in the Links tab to connect with other family members that may be able to help answer questions.
- Local Resources: If online options are exhausted, contact county courthouses, historical societies, and church archives.
- DNA testing: Getting a DNA test can provide clues about family lines, surnames and can help connect with distant cousins.
Finding ancestry information can be like being a detective. We hope you are able to track down the information you are searching for about your ancestor.
